The Winnipeg Blue Bombers are suing Keystone Entertainment of Calgary over the cancelled Aerosmith Concert last summer. A statement of claim was filed today.
Aerosmith and ZZ Top were to have played the stadium August 7th. A reported 10-thousand tickets had been sold.
However the concert was cancelled after lead singer Steve Tyler fell from a stage in South Dakota two days before the Winnipeg date... breaking a shoulder. He also received 20 stitches to his head.
A lawyer for the Bombers told CJOB... Keystone Entertainment failed to fulfill terms of the contract which caused the club to incur expenses. However he would not disclose what those expenses were.
In the latest twist in the Aerosmith/Steven Tyler saga, Joe Perry says that Tyler has neither quit the band or been fired by Aerosmith. Perry told Classic Rock magazine, "Steven hasn't quit the band, nor have we sacked him. We're taking the attitude that he's going on a vacation from Aerosmith. While he's away working on other projects, the rest of us want to carry on playing live. So we will be bring another singer to make this happen."
He went on to say that any replacement would be hired for live dates until Tyler returns: "We're not daft enough to think we can replace Steven, and that's not our plan. But after 40 years of working together we just don't wanna stop. How long with Steven be away? He says it'll be two years, but I believe he'll be back a lot sooner. It may end up that we only do 10 shows with the new person!"
• Perry says that he and the band realize that age is a tremendous factor in the professional decisions they make: ["You realize you're not an immortal, and you don't have this 22-year-old feeling of 'this thing can go on forever,' and you know, 'I can do whatever I want, I can go for three nights without sleep and everything will be fine.' You start to realize that it's a very delicate thing, life is a delicate thing, and being able to perform at the top of your game is a delicate thing. And it's one of those changes, you know, that comes over. I'm still amazed that we can put on the kind of show that we put on. Every night could be out last."] SOUNDCUE (:25 OC: . . be our last)

DISTURBED BEGINS RECORDING NEXT CD

Disturbed has hit the studio in its hometown of Chicago to begin recording its fifth album, with a tentative summer release date planned. The group has not yet announced a title for the project, which will follow up 2008's Indestructible. Guitarist Dan Donegan told us that Disturbed had 15 to 18 songs ready to go, adding that the band doesn't like to waste time once it gets started: ["I mean, we definitely go in there very prepared. We never enter the studio unless we feel like, right now, if these are the songs we record, that we would have an album that we're proud of and we're excited about. And we put everything under the microscope and examine it the best we can to make sure that we're prepared. We don't like going in there wasting time. We go in there to work, and to try to make the best album we can."] SOUNDCUE (:21 OC: . . . album we can.)
• Meanwhile, the band has set March 23rd as the release date for the 10th anniversary edition of its debut album, The Sickness. The set, which will also be available on vinyl, will feature B-sides, new artwork, and exclusive online content.
• Around the same time, the group will re-launch its website with a special section, accessible only by a code included with new copies of The Sickness, that will feature clips of the quartet in the studio recording their new album.
FAST FACTS
• Disturbed was formed in 1994 under the name Brawl, but changed its name after singer David Draiman joined two years later.
• The Sickness was released in March 2000 and went to become Disturbed's biggest-selling album, with four million copies sold. The CD contained the singles "Stupify," "Voices" and "Down With the Sickness," which is the seventh most downloaded track of the 2000s.
• Disturbed has sold a total of 11 million albums and six million digital tracks worldwide since making their debut 10 years ago. The group has also scored eight Number One hits at rock radio.
• Disturbed is also just one of six rock bands to land three consecutive Number One albums on the Billboard 200, with 2002's Believe, 2005's Ten Thousand Fists and 2008's Indestructible.

GODSMACK OFFICIALLY NAMES NEW ALBUM 'THE ORACLE'

Godsmack has officially named its new album The Oracle, after initially calling the project Saints & Sinners. Footage of the band working in the studio, along with frontman Sully Erna discussing the title change and some of the new material, has been posted online. The group's fifth studio effort follows up 2006's IV and a nearly two-year hiatus that ended last summer when Godsmack joined the Crue Fest 2 tour.
Sully Erna told us that following their hiatus, Godsmack intends to keep working straight through the next decade: ["We grinded pretty hard for 10 years and we took a strict year off. I mean literally, when we pulled the plug on the tour, we said, don't call me, I'll call you. And then, you know, the following year, we started writing the new record. So we decided that since we pretty much have had two years off, we are now gonna get back into it for the next 10 years again and really grind hard."] SOUNDCUE (:19 OC: . . . really grind hard.)
• A single called "Crying Like A Bitch" will head to rock radio later this month.
• Other new songs include "War & Peace," "Devil's Swing" and "Whiskey Hangover," which the band issued as a single last summer.
• A release date has yet to be announced for The Oracle.
• During their break, the band released a greatest hits set, while the rest of the group minus Erna issued an album under the name Another Animal. Erna has also been working on his first solo effort.
'SEVERE VOCAL PROBLEMS' SIDELINE MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE SINGER

My Chemical Romance has been forced to cancel all upcoming live dates, in particular an appearance on Australia's Soundwave Festival tour, according to Buzznet.com. Singer Gerard Way is having what is described as "severe vocal problems," with doctors advising him to avoid performing and instead receive treatment for his throat and vocal chords and protect their long-term use.
• Way said in a statement, "We are really sorry that we've had to cancel this tour, and apologize for any inconvenience it has caused. The last thing we ever want to do is cancel shows, but we'll be back to Australia to make it up to the fans as soon as possible."
• Replacing My Chemical Romance on the Soundwave bill is Jimmy Eat World. The trek begins on February 23rd in Sydney.
• My Chemical Romance's new album -- the first non-concept effort in the group's career -- is due out later this year and will follow up 2006's The Black Parade.
