Track of The Day - The Faces - Had Me A Real Good Time

Posted 9/3/2010 9:30:00 AM
Poor Rod Stewart, he's become the Frank Sinatra of his generation.  He's 65 so I guess he's entitled to do whatever he wants but holy crap was he good back in the early 70's.

The Faces came about after the demise of the Small Faces - guitarist/greatest-rock-singer-ever, Steve Marriott quit and formed Humble Pie with Peter Frampton.  Steve was replaced by Rod Stewart and Ronnie Wood with their identical do's and love of booze.

The Faces were perhaps the greatest drunken live band ever.  That means they weren't exactly polished but man, you could tell they were having a good time - at all times.

The Faces - Had Me A Real Good Time - from "Long Player" (1971)

Version below live at the BBC, 1971.

Track of The Day - Alice Cooper - I'm Eighteen

Posted 9/2/2010 9:30:00 AM
I've been trying to avoid picking huge tunes for this little segment but I can't help it with this one.  "School's Out' is likely the first Alice Cooper tune I ever heard - the first time I remember seeing him was when I was a kid watching The Muppet Show.  I bought a 45 of "School's Out" and "I'm Eighteen" was on the flipside.  After playing the crap out of "School's Out' - for obvious reasons - I really got into "I'm Eighteen".  I then promptly forgot about Alice Cooper until I was in my teens.

When I hear old Alice Cooper I always think of my high school friend, Paul Seabrook. He was a fanatical Alice fan - I assume he still is.  He also loved Faster Pussycat, Cinderella, Poison, etc., etc., yet I liked him anyway.  He's the kind of guy who would shrug his shoulders, laugh ...
