It’s a sad, somber day in Canada today as we learn of the passing of Canadian rock icon, The Tragically Hip front man, Gord Downie. He passed away surrounded by family and loved ones. Gord was 53 and succumbed to his battle with brain cancer.
This morning on POWER MORNINGS with Philly, Joe and Randy, they opened up the phone lines to let our listeners share their stories and memories.
Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, a close friend of Gord Downie’s, gave a statement earlier this morning showing the emotions that we’re all feeling.
Below is the statement that the band released this morning breaking the news to the world.
The Hip made their way through Winnipeg last year during their Man Machine Poem tour. Below are some photos from the event.
At each stop of the tour, for a brief moment, the lights were turned up so that Gord could see each and every one of his fans and he thanked them for their loyalty, dedication, and love.
These last few videos were shot on July 7, 2011 when The Tragically Hip performed at Shaw Park.
