Did you see the horror film IT this weekend???
Did you love it as much as I did? Talk about a refreshing approach to a coming-of-age story blending it with horror, in an attempt Hollywood usually misses the mark with. IT however was a extremely pleasant surprise. You have probably seen a lot of talk about it for 3 reasons…
- The Summer Box Office was quite lackluster this year and IT has been a major standout even if appearing right at the close.
- ‘It’ Scared Up A Thunderous – Monstrous $123M Weekend
- If the miniseries and novel are anything to go on we will get a unique sequel…
OKAY SPOILERS BELOW!
In the book, King jumps back and forth between the main characters as kids and as adults, although in both eras they are trying to vanquish the evil clown Pennywise. The plan for the sequel, which is being called Chapter Two, will set the action in the present with adults. As the kids made a pact to return in “27” years to come back and fight the clown should he return. The 1990’s Mini Series saw a similar thing with 2 parts the first with children, the latter with them returning as adults.
IGN reports The film’s writer Gary Dauberman has already signed a deal to write the sequel and director Andy Muschietti is expected to return as well. Obviously, new actors will be needed to play these characters as adults, but that doesn’t mean we’ve seen the last of these characters as kids. Flashback scenes may be shot for the new film, in which case New Line would need to strike new deals with all the stars of IT.
It shall be exciting to see which Hollywood stars jump on to play the much older kids, especially after the success we have seen from the first film.
