The other day I posted a blog with covers of Tragically Hip songs, asking if there was a song that kind of defines Canada through it’s lyrics, sounds and all-round pervasiveness.
When I posed the question on our Facebook page, a number of our followers said nah, “Out For A Rip” by B Rich (aka Brendan Richmond) is the ultimate Canadian song.
I didn’t recognize it, or at least didn’t remember it if I had, so naturally I had to look it up.
HILARIOUS!!! (But the language is definitely NSFW – so whatch it at home ok bud?)
And isn’t it funny how when you get turned on to something, it seems to pop up everywhere? The video came out back in 2013 but just last week, B Rich and his buds were back with a new vid.
This time around it’s in response to Coke using the famous hoser phrase on their new line of bottles. (Fun Fact: there’s a Spotify playlist that comes up if you scan the Out For A Rip bottle code – with bands like Hollerado, The Black Keys and Hot Hot Heat, which is all wrong according to B Rich, but you can read more about that here.) Thing is. buddy is obviously smarter than he would have you believe, and he actually trademarked the phrase back in 2014 (it was approved last year).
Apparently the video serves as a legal cease and desist notice.
While it sucks that it’s come to the point of litigation, at least we got another few ounces of entertainment out of it.
Good luck bud!
