There are a couple of things that Winnipeggers do better than anyone: mostly notably drink Slurpees and create giant Living Canada flags.
As is tradition, this Canada Day, Winnipeg will once again be vying for the title of largest living flag in the country, but this year, with a twist.
Instead of recreating Canada’s flag, the Downtown Winnipeg Biz wants to create a giant Maple Leaf. They say it’s easier to adjust the size of a leaf if more (or less) people show up than expected.
Another change this year is the location. Previously held on the Legislature grounds and for the past few years at Shaw Park, this year’s locale will be one of the most iconic intersections in the country: Portage and Main.
If you want to take part, get down to 201 Portage Ave at 8am on Saturday July 1st. The first 2500 guests will receive an official Canada Day Living Maple Leaf shirt. Organizers ask that everyone who wants to participate comes wearing a red shirt. They are hoping to get 4000 people out.
