The rock n roll world is reeling today with the news that Chris Cornell has committed suicide.
The news came as quite a shock to pretty much everyone because it happened right after Soundgarden finished playing a concert (that he seemed happy about) in Detroit.
In this world of concert goers not being able to put the camera phone down at shows, it’s quite common to be upset that people aren’t living in the moment. But on a day like today, because of our obsession with having our noses in our phones, the world gets to see the very last song that Chris Cornell ever performed.
Whether it’s through Soundgarden, Audioslave, or his solo stuff, Chris Cornell has been the soundtrack (or at least a big portion of the soundtrack) to most of our lives. He’s got plenty of hours of moving performances, but for my money his cover of Prince’s ‘Nothing Compares 2U’ is the one that you need to pay attention to.
Chris Cornell was 52 years old…and he will be missed.
