It’s the most wonderful time of the year for Winnipeg wine lovers. The 2017 Winnipeg Wine Festival kicks off today. You don’t have to be an aficionado to enjoy the wine festival either, you can learn about wine or just try something new.
The Winnipeg Wine Festival, now in its 16th year is the biggest fundraiser of the year for Special Olympics Manitoba. It features a number of wine tasting and pairing events over the course of a week at seven different venues. More than 10,000 people are expected to attend the educational seminar and three public tastings. Their press release says it is one of the largest wine festivals in Canada.
Every year the festival features wines from a particular region and this year, with the Canada150 celebrations, the feature country is Canada. You’ll be able to try over 500 wines at the public tastings and 135 of those are Canadian from 36 different wineries in BC and Ontario. Many of these Canadian wines are exclusive to the festival and available in Manitoba for the first time.
