I read an article in the paper early this year stating that this was going to be an exceptional year for local filmmakers, especially in the horror genre. And it certainly has. First, we had the filming of the latest Chucky installment.
Now we have a trailer for The Void. A film written and directed by a couple of locals that’s getting lots of praise in the horror world.
The Void was written and directed by Steven Kostanski & Jeremy Gillespie.
They are a part of a Winnipeg film collective known as Astron-6. A company that started out based on a shared love for 70’s and 80’s horror.
Kostanski and Gillespie have a fair number of big time Hollywood credits to their names in the make-up, effects and art departments. They have worked together on films like Pacific Rim and most recently, Suicide Squad. The Void is their writing and directorial debut.
To get The Void off the ground the guys started a crowdfunding campaign.
The film showed at a number of festivals late last year and will see a limited theatrical and VOD release in the US on April 7th. (In the UK it will be available March 31st.) No word on when we’ll get to see it here.
