People are up in arms about this video:
The video, which has been viewed over 7 million times, is allegedly from the set of ‘A Dog’s Purpose’ a film shot in Manitoba last year.
The Hollywood premier was cancelled amid growing concern and calls to boycott the film following the release of the video. Preview screenings arranged by animal groups across the country have been cancelled and many are calling for an investigation.
The charge is being led by People for the Ethical Treatment for Animals and Animal Justice. You can read PETA’s statement on their website and Animal Justice filed a complaint which you can read here.
Some are pointing fingers at the Winnipeg Humane Society. Read their response here.
According to the Winnipeg Sun, the city’s Chief Veterinary Office is looking into the video and Manitoba Underdogs Rescue, though they made no official statement said they were ‘appalled’. Manitoba Mutts Dog Rescue and D’Arcy’s A.R.C. (Animal Rescue Centre) have made no official statements.
Of course, there are always two sides to every story. Read another take here.
One thing is for sure, it causes us all to ask ourselves; what do they really mean when they say ‘no animals were harmed during filming’? This is something that the American Humane Association is supposed to look out for. They are conducting an investigation as well. It’s too bad… because this looked like a cute family movie we could have been proud to tell our friends was shot here, and now it will always be tainted by scandal.
