The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame has put out it’s list of nominees for the 2017 class of inductees. I hate to sound like an old outspoken fart like Gene Simmons, but I think it’s time for the institution to change it’s name to something more broad. I bring up Gene Simmons because last year he made a big stink about the rap group NWA being inducted, and to be honest I kind of agree with him.
This year Tupac has been nominated…see if you can pick out anything rock and roll about this:
Don’t get me wrong, I understand the sentiment that Rock And Roll is an attitude, but in my mind the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame is about the music, and I don’t think Tupac or NWA belong in it. I love me some gangsta rap music, but if we’re going to let it into the hall of fame, then we might as well be throwing in John Williams and Dave Brubeck, and changing the name to the Music Hall Of Fame:
Okay that’s enough ranting for now. Here’s the full list of 2017 nominees:
Electric Light Orchestra
J. Geils Band
I’d tell you which ones I think that should make it in, but that would be too rock n roll…or not quite rock n roll enough, I can’t tell anymore.
