A Danish chili aficionado who goes by the name, Chili Klaus, posted a video on Facebook of himself and two women eating the world’s hottest chili pepper, the Carolina Reaper. Don’t worry, nobody throws up.
Peppers are rated using the Scoville scale which measures the spicy heat of chili peppers. The unit of measure is SHU (Scoville Heat Units). To give you an idea as to how hot a Carolina Reaper is, a bell pepper has a rating of 0 SHU. A banana pepper ranges between 100 – 1,000 SHU. A jalapeno pepper ranges between 3,500 – 10,000 SHU. The Carolina Reaper’s official world record is 1.57 million SHU.
