New technology can stop people from recording video and taking photos at concerts. Apple has been granted a patent for a gadget that tracks and interprets infrared signals which can disable your phone’s camera.
They’ve had this idea for awhile; applying for the patent back in 2011. Even 5 years ago they were aware how annoying it can be for people to crane their necks around all the phones blocking the view of the stage. Some musicians don’t like it either.
The patent reads: “An infrared emitter can be located in areas where picture or video capture is prohibited, and the emitter can generate infrared signals with encoded data that includes commands to disable the recording functions of devices. An electronic device can then receive the infrared signals, decode the data and temporarily disable the device’s recording function based on the command.”
