Rogers hopes to ‘firm up the base’ by putting Ron MacLean back on Hockey Night in Canada.
Scott Moore, president of Sportsnet and NHL says the hardcore hockey fans simply never warmed up to George Stroumboulopoulos and the regular viewer is pretty comfortable with Ron MacLean.
Stroumboulopoulos signed a five-year deal in 2014 after Rogers acquired the NHL rights in a 12-year agreement. Pushing Ron MacLean aside was a controversial decision since Strombo was seen by many as an outsider with no hockey cred. Not to mention the uproar about his ‘fitted’ suits and ‘weird’ hair cut. The guy is fashion-forward, give him a break!
Strombo is now leaving “to explore new creative opportunities.” I think that’s a nice way of saying he’ll be looking for another job while milking this contract.
