Most of us can say that we’ve had some sort of pain or symptom but it’s not that big of a deal that we need to go to the doctor. So what do we do? Google it of course! The only problem with that is we get the WORST information possible. Somehow Google makes us think the small red bump on our arm is some sort of flesh-eating disease, when it’s really a bug bite…
Google is aware that people resort to ‘Googling it’ for medical purposes so they’re coming out with Symptom Search.
Google says one in 20 searches are health-related. So they’ve created ‘Symptom Search’.
Now, when you type a complaint like ‘arm pain’ into the Google app, it will display a short overview of the symptom, information on how to treat it at home, and signs indicating you should go to the doctor.
It also shows a list of related conditions compiled with help from people at Harvard Medical School and the Mayo Clinic.
There’s no date set to roll out symptom search in Canada, but we’ll see it at some point in the near future. Yaaay! Googling health-related things won’t make you think you’re dying anymore!
