It’s no secret that many people are ditching traditional cable and latching on to the commercial-free obsession that is Netflix. It’s clearly the lack of commercials that people love, along with the ability to watch what is probably too many episodes of House of Cards.
While you’re binge-watching you probably aren’t thinking of the lack of commercials and how easily/fast you’re able to move on to the next episode. Well, cordcutting.com tallied up all the hours Netflix saves the average TV watcher and the results were pretty impressive—a savings of 6.6 days per year!
According to Netflix data, the average subscriber watches 1 hour and 40 minutes of content every day. Meanwhile, the average TV hour contains 15 minutes and 38 seconds of ads. So if the average Netflix guy was watching on conventional TV, he’d be viewing about 26 minutes of ads per day, or 9,506 minutes of ads per year—which works out to 6.6 days of commercials per year. See? Easy!
Netflix is great, but honestly, I actually LIKE commercials. They give you the opportunity for bathroom breaks and how sad would you be if you weren’t able to experience the commercials that are actually good? They’re great! Sure I could do without the ones that seem to be on every five minutes, but call me crazy, I think a life without commercials is a much less exciting life.
