The contracts with waste management companies Emterra and Progressive Waste Services end in 2017. The contracts were the first ones issued by the city after it changed its residential trash and recycling collection in 2012.
Apparently the years have been littered with complaints about thousands of homes being missed, equipment breakdowns that caused delays in service, damaged bins, trash spilling onto streets and crews seen mixing trash and recycling.
Personally, no complaints about the new system but it seems there’s always something for people to complain about.
The city will issue requests for proposals to take over the contracts. Read more here.
