If you’re a hockey parent, player, or frequent game-goer, you may remember seeing some police officers at a few games last year.
The WPS and Hockey Winnipeg have joined forces once again for the CHECK-ing In program. Last season officers visited 40 games and will do the same this year. The program was put in place to avoid the violence and extreme behavior that has been seen at these minor league games in previous years.
Most parents have only positive things to say about the program and so far, there hasn’t been a need for officers to go as far as removing someone from the arena, but they have had to approach a few parents after games to discuss their behavior.
If you recall some of the videos that surfaced of the incidents happening at some games, you probably agree that this is program is a good idea.
