Get ready Winnipeg! The next few days are going to be hot, hot, hot. (You know the song). The Province going as far as issuing a heat advisory.
Children, pets and the elderly are the most effected and proper precautions should be made to ensure no one gets hurt. For the love of god, do NOT bring your pet anywhere with you and leave it in the car when it’s this hot. Even if it’s for 10 minutes, because 80% of the temperature increase in your vehicle happens in the first 10 minutes. Lets put it in perspective, if it’s 30 outside, it’s 50 inside your car!
Anyway… on to the point of why I’m writing this blog… relief from the heat!
1) Here’s an awesome way to have a water fight and you can fill 40 balloons at once! Wish I had this as a kid:
2) Don’t have air conditioning? You can make your own for WAY less than the cost of a unit! Here are a few ways:
3) Keep cool while you sleep:
Get a cooling pillow like the Chillow, or if it’s just way too hot in bed, put your sheets in the fridge before bedtime. How about cooling your mattress? Put soft gel ice packs on top of the mattress and underneath the sheets; try under your legs, neck, or lower back for maximum comfort. How about freezing a cotton sock filled with rice, then slipping it between the sheets. The rice will hold a chill longer.
4) Learn your body’s cooling areas to beat the heat faster:
We all know that cooling off involves coming into contact with something cooler than ourselves, but that personal temperature reduction can happen a lot faster if you know your body’s quick cooling spots. Your neck and wrists are two of the best, but the top of your feet and insides of your ankles work, too). Just focus your ice pack, or whatever you’re using to cool yourself.
5) Try Aloe Vera:
You know aloe vera soothes sunburn, but its cooling properties also work to help you beat the heat. Blogger Crunchy Betty offers different recipes to make spray of it, combining witch hazel and peppermint oil.
6) How about this Ice Vest from Amazon?
